Short answer: roofers get more leads by showing up in the Google map when a homeowner searches, by having reviews that make them the safe pick, and by answering every inquiry fast. Roofing is a high value job and a rare purchase, so people research hard before they call. Your job is to be everywhere they look and to look trustworthy when they find you.
How homeowners find a roofer
Most roofing jobs start in one of two moments. Either something went wrong (a leak, a storm, a missing shingle) or the homeowner knows the roof is old and has been putting it off.
In the first case, they search on their phone and call one of the first businesses they see. Speed wins. In the second case, they take their time. They compare a few companies, read reviews, and look at photos of finished work. Trust wins.
Both moments run through Google. That is why the same few things drive most roofing leads.
1. Own your Google map listing
The map results at the top of a local search get the most calls. Three businesses show, and everybody else is below the fold.
- Pick the right main category. "Roofing contractor" is the obvious one. Add secondary categories only for work you truly do.
- List every service. Roof repair, roof replacement, storm damage, gutters if you do them, and so on. Each one is something Google can match to a search.
- Keep your name, address and phone exact. The same way on your site and every listing online.
- Add real photos often. Crews on a roof, before and after, finished jobs. Fresh photos tell Google and homeowners you are active.
- Set your service area honestly. Cover the places you actually work.
2. Collect reviews on purpose
For a job this big, reviews decide who gets the call. A homeowner who has never hired a roofer wants to see that other people were happy.
Ask every happy customer for a review the day the job ends, while they are still looking at the new roof. A text with a direct link works best. Waiting a week cuts the response sharply.
- Make it one tap. A link straight to the review box, not "search for us on Google."
- Ask every time, not just when you remember.
- Reply to every review, including the bad ones, calmly and briefly. People read how you handle trouble.
3. Build pages for what people search
A single "roofing" page cannot compete. Homeowners search for specific things, and you want a page for each.
- A page for roof repair, one for roof replacement, one for storm damage, and one for each roofing material you install.
- A page for each town you want more work in, with real local detail like common roof types, weather, and neighborhoods you have worked.
- Photos of your own jobs on those pages, not stock images.
- A clear phone number and a short form on every page.
4. Be fast to answer
Roofing leads often go to whoever calls back first. A homeowner with a leak is not waiting until tomorrow, and even a planning homeowner fills out forms on three sites at once.
- Answer calls, or have a missed call text back right away.
- Reply to form leads in minutes, not hours.
- Have a simple next step: a free inspection, a quote visit, a time on the calendar.
This is the cheapest improvement in the whole list. Plenty of roofers pay for leads and then lose them to a slow reply.
5. Use storm season well
After hail or high wind, search volume jumps. If you wait until it happens to prepare, you are late.
- Have storm damage and insurance claim pages written before the season.
- Post fresh photos and updates to your Google profile as work comes in.
- Be ready to book inspections quickly when the calls spike.
Be careful with storm chasers. Homeowners have been burned by out of town crews, so showing that you are local, licensed and reviewed is a real advantage.
6. Show proof, not promises
- Before and after photos of real jobs.
- Your license and insurance, stated plainly.
- Manufacturer certifications if you have them.
- Reviews on the page, with names and towns.
7. Do not rely on one source
Referrals are great, but they are slow and uneven. The goal is a few steady sources so a quiet month does not hurt. Google map listing, your website, reviews, and past customers all feed each other. A happy customer leaves a review, the review helps your listing, the listing brings new customers.
What we do and why
We build websites for roofers and other contractors with a page for each service and town, set up automatic review requests so every finished job asks for a review, and add AI follow up so a new inquiry gets a reply in seconds, even when you are on a roof. It is one monthly plan with no contract.
What to do this week
- Search "roofer near me" on your phone and see where you land.
- Check your Google profile for the right categories and a full list of services.
- Text your last five happy customers a direct review link.
- Count the pages on your site that are about one roofing service or one town.
- Call your own number after hours and see what happens.
The bottom line
More roofing leads come from being found in the map, looking trustworthy through reviews and real photos, and answering fast. None of it is complicated, but all of it has to be done consistently. Fix the basics first and the leads follow.
